Broadford, Isle of Skye, is a village on the Island of Skye in the Inner Hebrides. About 8 miles West of Kyleakin, this is the first township that the visitor to Skye by the ordinary route from the mainland will reach. It stands at the junction of the road North to Portree, West to Elgol, and South to Sleat.

It has a pier, a few shops, a hotel, and a pleasant small stream that flows into Broadford Bay. It is a good touring centre for the South of the island.

At the foot of the hills and at the end of a short by-road lie the ruins of Coirechatachan farmhouse. Readers of Boswell will recall that it was here Johnson warmed as nowhere else to true Highland hospitality. It was here, at some spot now covered by rubble, that Mistress Mackinnon embraced the sage from London and exclaimed, “What is it to live and not to love?”
