Mottistone, Isle of Wight, 11 miles along the main road West from Brighstone, belonged to the Cheke family, one of whose members tutored Edward VI. It has an unspoilt example of a Tudor manor house.
Behind the manor is the island's only megalith, an iron sandstone pillar 13 ft high, with a second stone lying at its feet, dating from the 3rd millennium B.C. Mottistone church is of 12th and 14th century origin with a Jacobean font and pulpit. The l8th century organ is by John England.
