Hathersage, Derbyshire. It is said that Little John, Robin Hood's henchman, was born here; and that from a cottage here he shot the arrow to mark the spot where he wished to be buried. The Church of St Michael occupies a commanding position on the highest point of the town, and accentuates it by its spire. Built towards the end of the 14th century, but restored by Butterfield in 1862, it is highly thought of by authorities on church architecture; and is renowned for its wealth of good brasses, memorials to the Eyre family dating back to 1459.
