Gartocharn, West Dunbartonshire. The village of Gartocharn, partly a dormitory village for Glasgow, lies about 1 mile from the South East shores of Loch Lomond, and stands below Duncryne, an abrupt conical hill that rises to 462 ft from a base of about two acres. There is a path to the summit, from which is an excellent view of Strathendrick, the Vale of Leven, and Loch Lomond.
On the shores of the loch is Ross Priory, where Sir Walter Scott stayed and wrote parts of Lady of the Lake and Rob Roy. There is a notable yew avenue in the grounds.
