Blackwaterfoot, North Ayrshire, is a hamlet on the South West side of the Isle of Arran. This small place is popular with holiday-makers who wish to avoid the comparative crowds on other parts of this favourite island. On Drumadoon Bay, it is on the more Lowland half, and has golf, fishing, and bathing; it looks over Kilbrennan Sound to Kintyre. It is near to Shiskine church, where a crudely-carved tombstone is said to mark the burial-place of St Molaise. Near too is the “King's Cave”, believed to have sheltered Bruce upon his arrival on the island. The same cave is associated with Fingal of the Ossiamc legend and poem.
