Tebay, Cumbria, is a village among high fells at the north end of the Lune Gorge, which has traces of Roman occupation. Down the gorge the River Lune flows South on its way to the Irish Sea past Caton and Lancaster. The impressive landscape of the gorge has been long known to travellers on the main-line railway, but also the route of the M6. The fells stretch East to Ravenstonedale and North West to the Shap Fell area.
