Brough, East Yorkshire. A ferry on the York to Lincoln route carried Roman soldiers across the Humber here in the days of the Roman station of Petuaria. The location was established firmly with the discovery in 1937 of an inscribed stone of about A.D. 160 recording the gift of a theatre by Marcus Ulpius lanuarius. The station covered about 12 acres and was stone-walled. The village is now an appendage of Hull.
