Eccleston, Merseyside, a village on the western boundary of St Helen's, that was the birthplace of Richard Seddon. who became Prime Minister of New Zealand. Christ Church is a massive 19th century building in red sandstone with a spire and high pinnacles. It was designed by Samuel Taylor. Inside are an oak gallery and hammer-beam roof. There are lavish carvings of fruit, flowers and foliage. Panels from New Zealand include a memorial to Seddon.
