Visit Burton upon Trent and the surrounding villages and stay in bed & breakfast accommodation:

Burton upon Trent, Staffordshire. On a warm day the rich, “home-cooking” smell of beer being brewed hangs in every street of this important brewing town. Here, too, are the huge buildings bearing the names familiar to everyone who takes a glass of ale. Yet Burton was not always a brewing town; once its prosperity was geared to the clothing industry, although story has it that a l3th-century abbot of Burton used the water from the local wells for brewing. Of his abbey only fragments remain and the man most remembered here in stone and brick is Michael Bass, a member of the famous brewing firm who became Lord Burton during Mr Gladstone's premiership. To Lord Burton the town owes its fine Town Hall, the beautiful St Paul's Church, St Margaret's Church and a number of other public buildings.

The parish church is St Modwen's, dedicated to the founder of the first Christian settlement at Burton in the 7th century. The church, standing near the Trent, was built in the early 18th century and contains a l5th-century font, probably a relic from an earlier church.

Fine views of the river can be had from the three bridges — the main Burton bridge, the iron Anglesey Bridge, and the long footbridge, known as the Stapenhill Viaduct.
