Powfoot, Dumfries and Galloway. Formerly known as Queensberry, this village on the bay at the mouth of Cummertrees Pow was noted as a seaside resort as early as the 1790s. Considerable development was carried out here early in the 20th century, a hotel and a fine golf course being constructed. It is a very popular holiday resort. It has a shingle and sand beach, with a wide expanse of sands at low tide. The village still has a very strong community spirit. Queensberry Terrace, on the main road 1 mile inland, was part of the development undertaken in 1911.
