Visit and the surrounding villages and stay in bed & breakfast accommodation:
Kippford, Dumfries and Galloway. This village of whitewashed cottages lies on the rugged and exceptionally beautiful estuary of the Urr, looking across to the impressive ridge of Screel and Bengairn, and down the firth to Hestan Island.
Smuggling and fishing were formerly important; now holiday-making and yachting are the principal concerns, though mussels are still gathered on Hestan.
A little South of the village is the smaller resort of Rough-Firth, with a shell beach; beyond this lies Rockliffe.
