The centre of the old part was Islington Green, near which is the picturesque Camden Passage, an alley noted for its market and antique shops. Canonbury Square, built c. 1800, is characteristic of lateóGeorgian Islington. The tall Canonbury Tower, now part of a theatre, was built c. 1595.
