Visit Debenham and the surrounding villages and stay in bed & breakfast accommodation:

Debenham, Suffolk, is at the source of the River Deben. The straggling village street, tree-lined and attractive, rises to the Church of St Mary with its superb west porch and 15th century nave arcade with hammer-beam and tie-beam roof. Parts of the tower are pre-Norman and there are some interesting monuments. Many old buildings remain despite the fire of 1744.

Six miles South West is Earl Stonham with its interesting church. Note the exceptionally fine hammer-beam roof and the l7th century pulpit with its four hour-glasses.

At Mendlesham North along the A140 there is in St Mary's Church a collection of armour of the 15th to 17th centuries. This is kept in the chamber over the south porch which has been used as the parish armoury since 1593. Note, too, the pulpit, reading desk and font cover all made by John Turner in 1630, the fine west tower and the notable north porch with its perfectly preserved carving.

North again off the B1077 is Bedingfield where the family of this name lived at the magnificent Fleming's Hall from c. 1309. It was rebuilt c. 1586 with a moat, brick porch and timber-framed wails, clusters of chimneys and Dutch gables; it is one of Suffolk's most striking houses.
