Brownhills, West Midlands. Close to this town on the edge of the Black Country is one of the country’s largest water-sports centres, Chasewater. The 260-acre lake is used for a variety of watersports. There are also gardens, an amusement park and a paddling pool. In Brownhills, at a junction on Watling Street (A5) near the railway station, stands what is believed to be one of the oldest signposts in England, dated 1777. Three miles to the East is the ancient Roman site of Wall; and at Ogley Hay is a relic of Roman earthworks.
