Visit Beattock and the surrounding villages and stay in bed & breakfast accommodation:
Beattock, Dumfries and Galloway. Beattock-Beathaich, the birchy place, lies at the junction of the main Glasgow and Edinburgh road to England down Annandale with the road from Dumfries. The railway station was built in 1847—8 and is celebrated in Cunninghame Graham's Beattock for Moffat, a classic example of the short story technique in any language, and the best one this splendid old Scottish-Spanish hidalgo, laird, and supporter of the early Scottish Socialists, ever wrote.
The Glasgow—Carlisle road is now a great dual carriage-way, and the village has been growing rapidly, but the pleasant Upper Annandale surroundings are unchanged.
