Alloa, Clackmannanshire. This little town on the road between Stirling and Kincardine-on-Forth was once renouned for it's brewing which started in 1784 and during the 1900's was home to at least 9 breweries. The growth of this town was originally based on the town's situation as a port on the Forth and its proximity to surrounding coalfields. The harbour and docks (approached by Lime Tree Walk, first planted in 1714) have declined with the decrease in shipping since the Second World War.

The town has good sporting facilities — for football, cricket, tennis, and particularly golf at Shawpark (an excellent inland course laid out by James Braid in 1936).
