Wimbledon, Greater London. It could be claimed that Wimbledon is the longest established of London's suburban villages, because Caesar's Camp is marked on the Ordnance Survey maps in the south-west corner of the 1,045-acre Common. It is a pleasant area of silver-birch woods and heathland, with two ponds, a golf course and an 1817 windmill: in the High Street at the top of Wimbledon Hill, Eagle House is dated 1613. Wimbledon is synonymous with tennis, since the All England lawn Tennis and Croquet Club holds its annual championships in June in Wimbledon Park.
