Walton on the Naze, Essex. A seaside resort with fine sands and excellent sea-bathing due in part to its situation on the Ness which stretches into the North Sea. The red crag cliffs contain many fossils of interest to the geologist.
The resort itself was developed at the beginning of the 19th century, and Marine Parade, then the Crescent, was built in 1832. Hotels, villas and cottages soon followed. There is a pier, the Naze Tower, originally built as a beacon in 1720, and a Martello tower.
