Address: The Shetland Hotel, HOLMSGARTH ROAD, SHETLAND, Shetland-Islands, ZE1 0PW
Scalloway, Shetland, is on the Mainland of the Shetland Islands. This pleasing little town, on the West coast of the island and just over 6 miles West of Lerwick, was the ancient capital of the archipelago, and is still the seat of island justiciary.
Set in an attractive bay, and with the remains of the “wicked” Earl Patrick Stewart's castle beside it, Scalloway has a dignified, old-world air about it. There are shops and a hotel in Scalloway, which is well placed for brown-trout fishing in the excellent loch of Tingwall. In Tingwall loch there is a small island, on which in Norse times the island parliament used to meet. Once a week, if the weather permits, a boat leaves Scalloway for the remote Western Shetland island of Foula.
