Visit Kirknewton and the surrounding villages and stay in bed & breakfast accommodation:
Kirknewton, Midlothian. The parish and village of Kirknewton, on the verge of the once prosperous shale district of West Lothian, might have suffered more, with other towns, in the recession in that industry had not the Ministry of Defence property nearby been chosen as an American base for the “692nd Security Group”, which brought substantial trade and cash. The Americans departed some years ago.
There is also a gliding station much used by the Air Cadet Force. Kirknewton which nestles neatly at the foot of the Pentland Hills is only 8 miles from Edinburgh and is convenient for growing centres in the industrial belt of Scotland.
