Hurstpierpoint, West Sussex. Here is Danny, the Elizabethan manor house built by George Goring in the form of a letter E in honour of Queen Elizabeth I who granted him the estate; it later became the home of the Campion family, who added a new wing in the reign of Queen Anne. In 1918 the War Cabinet, one of whose members was Winston Churchill, held meetings here presided over by the Prime Minister, Lloyd George, and drew up the terms of the armistice with Germany. A plaque in the great hall commemorates these meetings. The house contains many interesting exhibits, mainly concerned with its history and that of the Campion family.
