Great Witley, Worcestershire. 4m north of Martley is Great Witley. Witley Court was successively the home of the Foleys, the dower house of Queen Adelaide, the immensely grand residence of the Dudleys, and the property of Sir Herbert Smith. during whose ownership in the l930s it was gutted by fire. What remain are ruins on a Piranesian scale which can be seen from the main road or nearer at hand from the church.
The church should be visited. Much of it was brought from Canons in Middlesex and reinstalled here. It is the grandest baroque church interior in Britain and contains one of the grandest baroque monuments, the memorial by Rysbrack to the 1st Lord Foley.
