Goring, Oxfordshire. Attractively situated with the Chilterns at its back and the downs opposite, Goring was important in prehistoric times as the ford where the ancient Ridge Way and Icknield Way joined. The best way to see Goring is to approach it in a boat from up-river. The river widens, and separate channels diverge to Cleeve Mill on the left and to the picturesque Swan Hotel at Streatley, which lies on the right bank. The town has good hotels and restaurants, and boats can be hired.
