Eaton Socon, Cambridgeshire. It has a green with a Victorian lock-up in which there are two cells. The White Horse is a red-brick Georgian building with a panelled parapet. Charles Dickens is said to have stayed at the low, timber-framed Old Plough Inn. The Methodist chapel and the workhouse are both Victorian, the latter of yellow brick with an octagonal centre.
In Duloe Hill, 1 mile North, is a tower windmill without sails, with a cottage attached.
St Mary's Church, which borders on the River Ouse, was almost completely gutted by fire in 1930 and only the south arcades of five bays, the south clerestory and the west tower remain. The tower is high, with transomed two-tight bell openings. The square font, of Purbeck marble, is Norman. and there is a large Flemish tapestry of the 17th century and a brass of a civilian and his wife, about 1450.
Close to the river bank and East of the church are the Hillings, earthworks of a castle built in the 11th and 12th centuries. Bushmead Priory, 4 miles North West, has some remains of the former conventual buildings.
