White Place Farm is set in the tranquil Cookham countryside and borders one of the most scenic stretches of the River Thames. It is steeped in history, more recently having belonged to Lord and Lady Astor, previous owners of the now exclusive Cliveden House Estate. Today, White Place Farm is owned by us, John and Helen Edwards and we have farmed and raised our family here since the late 60's.

Cookham, Berkshire. With its green surrounded by the pretty houses and pleasant high street, Cookham draws many visitors. The river here also has great charm enhanced by the hanging woods of Cliveden.
In the village stands an old sarsen stone. Sir Stanley Spencer (1891-1959) was born and lived here, and the Stanley Spencer Gallery, King's Hall, shows some of his works, many of them inspired by his native village. He combined religious themes with everyday settings, and one of his major paintings, Resurrection (Tate gallery) shows Christ at the doorway of Cookham church. The Queen's Swan Keeper also lives here and at certain seasons can be seen wearing his ancient costume. The church, of the Norman, Early English and Perpendicular periods, has several brasses and monuments, including one to Sir Isaac Pocock by Flaxman, 1810.
There are four bowl barrows at Cock Marsh. Here 132 acres, and 78 more including Cookham Dean Common, belong to the National Trust, as does Widbrook Common, 1 mile south of Cookham.
Nearby villages: Bourne End, Bisham, Taplow, Wooburn. Burnham, Hurley
Nearby towns: Maidenhead, Marlow, Slough, Beaconsfield, High Wycombe
