Blackford, Perth and Kinross. Those who love the tang of Scotch Ale may consider it worth while pausing at this village to reflect upon its history. Brewing is still its main industry, and has been since at least 1488, when James IV, King of Scots, tasted some local ale in this neighbourhood and found it good; it is still brewed here and is still good. The village was burned in 1716 by the Earl of Mar after the Battle of Sherrifmuir, an indeterminate struggle that occurred during the Jacobite Rising started in 1715. Just to the South East of Blackford are the fragmentary remains of Ogilvie Castle, once a fortress of great strength but now reduced to rubble. The village is at the northern base of the Ochil Hills.
