Elie, Fife. Situated on the coast on a bay between Chapel Ness to the West and Elie Ness to the East, Elie, which forms a burgh with neighbouring Earlsferry, was formerly of some importance in trade and local affairs, but has for a long time been a popular seaside resort, having beautiful sands and excellent golfing facilities. It has a sheltered natural harbour, with quays and a pier. To the East of the harbour is Wadehaven, said to be named after General Wade who recommended it as a suitable harbour for naval ships.

Gillespie House, also known as “The Muckle Yett”, in South Street, has a fine carved door, dated 1682; the original house was demolished about 1860. The parish church dates from the 17th century.
